 The village of Ecorse was incorporated in 1903 and then became a city in 1941.  Ecorse is located in Wayne County.  Ecorse has been noted to be home of the Wyandotte Indians and the city was located at the mouth of the stream.  Formerly named "River Aux Echorches", which means "The River of the Barks" in English the area was originally used as a burial ground for the Native American Tribes of the area.  When the first steel mill, Michigan Steel Mill, began operation in 1923.
