Afton, Michigan is an unincorporated community within the Ellis Township. It is located east of the Pigeon River and about 20 miles south of Cheboygan. It had originated as a lumber camp in 1887. The area is quite popular for outdoor recreation from boating, camping, snowmobiling, hunting, and hiking.
The median income for a household in the township was $31,131, and the median income for a family was $32,206. Males had a median income of $29,375 versus $22,500 for females. The per capita income for the township was $15,525.
